Blogmas Day 18: Homemade Crisps

I have been in the predicament before when by there are people coming over and I don’t have any crisps to have out for people to snack on. I love crisps and having them out when people are over (along with other snacks, of course!) is a necessity to me. I am going to share my homemade crisps recipe with you so you are never without crisps – everyone always has potatoes even if they don’t have crisps! You can of course tailor this recipe to your own tastes and can also make them as festive as you like with the flavoring!

I’m going to be making salt and chili crisps! I made these for my boyfriend recently when we had the possibility of people coming over and we had no crisps in! They are so easy to make and are don’t take long either – perfect for a quick snack or for a last-minute party!

You will need:

1 large potato
Olive oil

Salt
Chili powder
Chili flakes
(Or flavourings of your choice)
Microwaveable plate
Large freezer or sandwich bag

To make the crisps:

Wash your potato. Peeling is optional – I prefer to leave the skin on!
Cut your potato as thin as you can.

Add all of your chopped pieces to a large freezer bag.
Drizzle around 1 tablespoon of oil into the bag with the chopped potato. You may need to add more if your potato was particularly large and made a lot of crisps!

Add in the flavourings of choice to your own personal taste.
Zip up the bag and shake! Ensure all of the potato pieces are covered in both oil and flavouring.

Spread some oil onto a large microwave safe plate and place a layer of the potato all around.

Pop the plate into the microwave for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, check on the potato pieces. Depending on how powerful your microwave is, you may need longer!
The crisps will be done when they are slightly browned and can be easily removed from the plate.

Transfer the crisps to a bowl if serving straight away or pop them into a large freezer or zip lock bag to keep them fresh for when you need them!

You can always add more flavouring at this point too!

And, as easy as that, you have homemade crisps!
