Blogmas Day 6: Evening Skincare Routine – Winter Edition

Winter is the time of year that my skin HATES. I suffer from fairly dry skin year round, but during the winter months it becomes a bit of a nightmare! Foundation doesn’t sit very nicely and just looks dry and flaky. I have to work at keeping my skin as hydrated as possible which can be quite the task. I have to exfoliate without over exfoliating and I have to make sure I don’t skip moisturizing after taking my make up off. I thought it would be useful to share the products and routine I am currently following to try to keep the dry skin at bay!

I start by cleansing my face and taking off any make up I’ve been wearing that day. Currently, I’m using the Sephora Supreme Cleansing Oil which I’ve had for a few months now and a little really does go a long way.

I pump some oil into my hands and gently rub it into my face and eyes – this can get messy! Once I’ve massaged it in for around a minute I take a cotton muslin cloth and run it under the warm water. I then use this to remove the make up from my face. If I’ve worn particularly heavy make up that day or I feel like my skin needs an extra cleanse I’ll repeat the same process again.

Once my face is feeling clean and all of the make up has been removed, I saturate a cotton pad with my Pixi Glow Tonic.

I picked this up recently to help with my dry skin and so far, so good! It is gentle yet does it’s job! I run the cotton pad across my face and I concentrate mainly on my T-Zone as this is where most of my problem dry patches are. Glow Tonic is an exfoliating toner which means I don’t need to use a harsh exfoliator on my dry skin as often as I was needing to before.

Once I’ve toned, I will moisturize. I am however on the look out for a serum or oil as I feel this will really help with keeping me hydrated – so if you are using one which works well please let me know! In the evenings I like to use an extra rich moisturizer but recently I have been using the Sephora Sleeping Masks for an extra hit of moisture.

It has a gel like texture which glides onto the skin. It doesn’t leave a greasy film on the skin, but it definitely sits on the skin for a little while whilst it sinks in. I personally don’t mind this as I feel that it’s working!

I will also apply my eye cream once I’ve applied my face moisturizer. Currently, I’m using the Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream which is almost empty.

I picked this up on a whim on a lunch break as it was on offer when I picked up the Vitamin E face mist. I can’t say I notice any huge differences, other than it keeps my under eyes hydrated. I am quite blue toned under my eyes and in the inner corner so I think I need to pick one up which targets these areas.

Finally, I apply a lip balm as my lips are always super dry and chapped around this time of year.

I’m currently using the EOS Lip Balm which I picked up whilst I’ve been in America. It helps to keep my lips hydrated and smooth.

If you have dry skin I’d love to hear how you’ve been tackling it this winter! Let me know in the comments below.

Oh I’ll definitely have to check out the Pixi Glow Tonic, I didn’t realise it was good for dry skin – I have the same problem as you so I’ll definitely have to pick a bottle up! Great post!

Thank you! Yeah, glycolic acid in it help to remove the dead skin cells yet the aloe Vera in it helps to soothe 😊 it’s very gentle! I’d say it’s definitely worth picking up and trying!
